Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department
Proudly Volunteering Since 1946
PV Fire Department Training
On Sunday, January 25th, PVVFD members participated in an Ice Resuce Drill on Lake Peekskill. A team of 4 members in cold water suits and attached to safety lines cleared the snow and cut an opening in the ice using chainsaws. Those on the shore observed the drill and manned the safety lines for those on the ice. The drill demonstrated various ways to rescue an individual who had fallen through the ice into the cold water. Skills practiced included exiting the water using handheld ice picks, using an ice sled and putting a rescue tube around an individual to hoist them out of the water.
YIELD FOR BLUE LIGHTS
When you see BLUE LIGHTS - please PULL OVER!! It will only take a few seconds - but in an emergency seconds count! A car with a flashing BLUE LIGHTS is a volunteer firefighter responding to an emergency.
BLUE LIGHTS DO NOT give volunteers any special privileges. They are courtesy lights only. The BLUE LIGHTS is to alert other drivers that we are on our way to an emergency. It's up to other drivers to pull over and let us go by! Please let us pass. It could give us the extra time to save a life or stop a fire before it's out of control. In a few minutes, these same people will be responding with a red light and siren.
Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
COMMITMENT TO OUR COMMUNITY - Our volunteers are committed to providing quality patient care with true compassion. The Putnam Valley Ambulance Corps provides emergency medical services which is a totally volunteer-driven organization. We strive everyday to provide exceptional emergency medical service to the community.
PVVAC is proud to offer to the public a variety of training classes in First Aid, CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens. To see a description and schedule of these classes and to sign up please click here!
PVVAC is always looking for new members (Youth Corps, Senior Corps, and Associates). Are you interested?
The Youth Corps. If you are between the ages of 13 and 17, you may join PVVAC's
Youth Corps. Members are trained in CPR and First Aid for medical emergencies and at 16 Youth Corps members may ride on actual calls under the supervision of Senior Corps members. The Youth Corps participates in drills, parades, and community functions with the Senior Corps, in addition to social activities of its own. Youth Corps members move up to the Senior Corps at age 18.
The Senior Corps. If you are 18 or older, you may join PVVAC's Senior Corps as a Probationary Member, moving to full Riding Membership in a year or less. No prior experience is required. You will learn CPR, First Aid and other life saving skills. You may advance your training by taking New York State EMT (Emergency Medical
Technician) or CFR (Certified Responder Course) classes, for which the Corps will pay, but these classes are not mandatory.
As a member, you are not obliged to respond to calls unless you have signed for a time on the roster, normally a few hours a week at your convenience. An ambulance crew in a medical emergency consists of three people: an EMT, a driver, and an attendant. A Youth Corps or Probationary Member may be a fourth member of the crew.
Associate Members. For those people who do not want to become involved with patient care, we have an important and essential group of Associate Members. These individuals assist the Corps with administrative tasks. They hold administrative offices such as Secretary, Treasurer, or member of the Board of Directors; they help with the fund drive, record-keeping, correspondence, and other “paperwork”; and they assist the Captain and other line officers.
Would you like to learn more about joining PVVAC? If so, you may contact our Membership Committee by calling 845-526-3119. Be sure to leave your name, telephone number, and the best time to contact you.
Come to a meeting! You may find out more about us by coming to one of our monthly membership meetings, which are held at 7:30 pm at the new PVVAC Headquarters at 218 Oscawana Lake Road on the 4th Wednesday of the month, January through October. In November and December, they are held on the second Wednesday. Meetings are preceded by a light supper at 7 pm. Join us!
When you see a GREEN LIGHT- please PULL OVER!! It will only take a few seconds - but in an emergency seconds count! A car with a flashing GREEN LIGHT is a volunteer emergency medical services person responding to an emergency.
GREEN LIGHTS DO NOT give volunteers any special privileges. They are courtesy lights only. The GREEN LIGHTS is to alert other drivers that we are on our way to an emergency. It's up to other drivers to pull over and let us go by. Please let us pass. It could give us the extra time to save a life. In a few minutes, these same people will be responding with a red light and siren.
Please practice GREEN LIGHT courtesy and HELP US HELP YOU!!

Temple Israel of Putnam Valley:
Temple Israel of Putnam Valley (Lake Drive, Lake Peekskill) is inaugurating a new program of “synagogue skills” learning. Rather than conduct a normal Shabbat service, we will be gathering together to study and learn for an hour or so. What we hope to do is to explore, in a relaxed and informal format, a series of key prayers and rituals that take place in synagogues around the world during Shabbat services. Our hope is that those who attend will find that they will become more comfortable with the content of the service.
This program is especially designed for anyone who is interested in learning more about what all these prayers and rituals mean but was afraid to ask! EVERYONE IS CORDIALLY INVITED.
These informal “shul” sessions will take place on the 2nd & 4th Shabbat each month until further notice.
Regular Shabbat Services are held the 1st & 3rd Saturday of each month at 9:30 am
Services are held in the Temple Sanctuary, Lake Shore Dr. in Lake Peekskill
