Putnam Valley Free Library:

The Library continues to operate out of the Community Room.
You may order library materials online which will be delivered to the Library.

The Board of Trustees want to thank the members of the PVHS Make a Difference Club for their volunteer work at the Library.

The students choose the Library as their community project this year. We appreciated their efforts to help us clean and paint areas of the Library as we prepare to reopen. Lots of helping hands really did make a difference.

We also want to thank the students for their fund-raising initiatives on behalf of the Library. Our Board President, Priscilla Keresey, and Trustee, Diane Malek, attended the recent School Board meeting and were presented with a check from members of the Make a Difference Club in the amount of $1,000!

The Make a Difference Club Co-Advisors, PVHS teachers, Linda Cefaloni and Elizabeth Olsen, were instrumental in coordinating the details of transportation, supplies, etc. for this project. They could also be seen working side by side with the students. Mr. Cefaloni also joined them on Saturday, October 25th, Make A Difference Day.

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL FOR DEMONSTRATING THE MEANING OF COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND THAT IT IS ALIVE & WELL IN PV!

The Mid-Hudson Library System redesigned their their online catalog to provide access to even more resources. When you click on the link on the Putnam Valley Library website to their catalog you should automatically be directed to their new library catalog.

Last construction update, posted on the Library's Facebook page, Oct. 2nd:

When it was discovered that cracks in the wall on the Library's second floor were increasing, engineers were called in and our 2-story building was closed. After obtaining the necessary permits, construction began in May 2014. Approximately 400 sq. ft. of the second floor, which was built over the porch supported by the vertical piers adjacent to Oscawana Brook, was demolished. A new second floor front wall was built. The new window upstairs was installed on August 27th.

This construction project addressed structural issues. It was not a renovation of the building. The loss of the office and collection space upstairs generated changes in the layout of the Children’s & Teen collections. However, the main floor of the Library and the collections downstairs remain the same.

The final details of the current construction project need to be completed and the work inspected prior to the issuance of a new certificate of occupancy by the Building Dept. There are also some building repairs which must be addressed before we can reopen.

Please note that our parking lot is fully open. Our entrance is at the north end of the parking lot adjacent to the illuminated sign. Our exit is again located at the south end of the parking lot. Both our entrance and exit are one way traffic only.

You can continue to pick up library materials that you have requested online as well as return items in our Community Room. Just walk across our covered bridge for access to the room or to return Library materials in our book drop when we’re closed.

To order library materials online, click on the Mid-Hudson catalog icon on our website. Your Library card can also be used at any of the 65 other libraries in the Mid-Hudson Library System.

Putnam Valley Area Chamber of Commerce:

Working to unify and represent the business owners of the Putnam Valley area through advocacy and by providing networking opportunities and education to assist storefront, home based and farm business to attract new commerce via means such as social media and our website.

The  Putnam Valley Chamber is planning a presentation by The LaBerge Group, professional planners, to make a presentation to our residents regarding Oregon Corners Business District upgrades necessary to make this a functioning and attractive place. See attached flyer.

All town board, planning and other representatives have also been invited.  This meeting is to take a different tactic from past, failed attempts to address the physical neglect, especially as businesses have folded and left stores vacant.  The concept is not to rely on an all “volunteer” effort to guide the design process, but using a professional organization that is funded by grant money available to communities like ours in New York State. They bring all stake holders together: residents, business members and gov’t. representatives, along with the Master Plan of 2007 for Oregon Corners that was carefully crafted as a guideline, to implement a final plan. They also identify grant monies available to make changes and monitor the process from start to finish which involves public participation.

Visit the Putnam Chamber on Facebook:
     www.facebook.com/PutnamValleyAreaChamberOfCommerce

The Chamber of Commerce meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will take place on December 9th at:
Once Upon a Time Preschool
47 Peekskill Hollow Road  Putnam Valley, NY

Storefront, Farm and Home Business Owners, and all interested Putnam Valley Residents, are invited and encouraged to attend.

Knox Box Program
Fire Department Emergency Access to Your Business

The Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department encourages the use of a Knox-Box for our local homeowners and businesses.  This system provides the quickest and most secure method of access to your property or building during an emergency.

Ten Reasons to Install a Knox-Box
  1. Eliminate needless, costly forced entry damage that may not be covered by your insurance deductible.
  2. Assure immediate building entry by firefighters without delay or waiting for building keys.
  3. Protect inventory, equipment and supplies from unnecessary water damage caused by delayed sprinkler shut-off.
  4. Satisfy local fire codes and emergency access ordinances.
  5. Save time and aggravation by not having to drive to your building at 2:00 am for a false alarm.
  6. Feel secure about emergency coverage when your building is left unattended. The fire department holds the only key to the KNOX-BOX.
  7. Maintain building security after a fire alarm investigation by simply re-locking the undamaged door.
  8. Protect your property from thousands of dollars in damage with this one-time, low-cost investment.
  9. Depend on the highest lock box security available with attack resistant, UL tested reliability.
  10. Over the last 25 years, KNOX-BOX has been the chosen solution in 6,000 communities nationwide - communities just like yours!

YIELD FOR BLUE LIGHTS

When you see BLUE LIGHTS - please PULL OVER!!   It will only take a few seconds - but in an emergency seconds count! A car with a flashing BLUE LIGHTS is a volunteer firefighter responding to an emergency.

BLUE LIGHTS DO NOT give volunteers any special privileges.  They are courtesy lights only.  The BLUE LIGHTS is to alert other drivers that we are on our way to an emergency.  It's up to other drivers to pull over and let us go by! Please let us pass.  It could give us the extra time to save a life or stop a fire before it's out of control. In a few minutes, these same people will be responding with a red light and siren.

Temple Israel of Putnam Valley:

Temple Israel of Putnam Valley (Lake Drive, Lake Peekskill) is inaugurating a new program of “synagogue skills” learning. Rather than conduct a normal Shabbat service, we will be gathering together to study and learn for an hour or so. What we hope to do is to explore, in a relaxed and informal format, a series of key prayers and rituals that take place in synagogues around the world during Shabbat services. Our hope is that those who attend will find that they will become more comfortable with the content of the service.

This program is especially designed for anyone who is interested in learning more about what all these prayers and rituals mean but was afraid to ask! EVERYONE IS CORDIALLY INVITED.

These informal “shul” sessions will take place on the 2nd & 4th Shabbat each month until further notice.

Regular Shabbat Services are held the 1st & 3rd Saturday of each month at 9:30 am

Services are held in the Temple Sanctuary, Lake Shore Dr. in Lake Peekskill

All services are free and open to all!

All are invited to attend services.

Note from the Webmaster:

For the residents of Putnam Valley who have asked where this information is coming from, it is gathered together from the many websites, facebook pages, bulletins, flyers, signs, posters, newsletters and e-mails of the various organizations and entities represented.

As to who pushes buttons on a keyboard to bring it to you,
my name is Michael S. Bennett; my family and I are residents of Putnam Valley.

I am associated with several organizations within our town that have expressed
frustration in trying to spread the word about their programs and activities.
Upon moving to Putnam Valley, my family also experienced difficulty
in getting information regarding where to go for the assistance
our town and county were providing during inclement weather,
power outages and hazardous conditions.

It is hoped that this information delivery system may assist both of those needs.
