Highway Department Work / Road Closures:

     None reported

Environmental Hazards / Closures:

No change has been formally reported to the residents of Lake Peekskill recently regarding the quality of the lake water - although testing has taken place and it is possible that with the passage of time, and the cooling of the air and water temperature, the water quality may have improved. No formal statement in this regard has been made by the DEC as of this writing, to the best of our knowledge. Use your best judgement, and contact official sources for the latest official information regarding the advisability of swimming in, bathing in, or eating fish caught in Lake Peekskill. Follow this link to access the August 2014
Lake Peekskill 2014 Water Quality Monitoring Report prepared by Princeton Hydro, LLC.

From the Lake Peekskill Facebook page, a non-official source, but worth considering:

"The lab results from the 9/15 shoreline bloom sample showed blue green algae levels of about 80 ug/|, above the DEC bloom criteria (=3Oug/l), and the microscopicanalysis showed "Woronichinia, Anabaena, and Microcystis" (all blue green algae species, some of which are capable of producing toxins). We don't yet havetoxin data, but I will forward those results if they indicate high toxins."

Note from the Webmaster:

For the residents of Putnam Valley who have asked where this information is coming from, it is gathered together from the many websites, facebook pages, bulletins, flyers, signs, posters, newsletters and e-mails of the various organizations and entities represented.

As to who pushes buttons on a keyboard to bring it to you,
my name is Michael S. Bennett; my family and I are residents of Putnam Valley.

I am associated with several organizations within our town that have expressed
frustration in trying to spread the word about their programs and activities.
Upon moving to Putnam Valley, my family also experienced difficulty
in getting information regarding where to go for the assistance
our town and county were providing during inclement weather,
power outages and hazardous conditions.

It is hoped that this information delivery system may assist both of those needs.
